Do you know any Korean side dishes? I would like to introduce one of the popular Korean side dishes today. It’s called Spicy Stir-Fried Anchovies. Koreans love to have it with rice. 


Spicy Stir-Fried Anchovies

Ingredients: 3 ounces small dried anchovies, 2~3 peppers, 2T cooking oil

Sauces: 1T soy sauce, 1T cooking wine, 1T sugar, 1t garlic, 2T honey, 1T sesame oil, 1T sesame seeds

How To Make It

Step 1: Preparing ingredients

Put anchovies in a strainer and shake them. Then, the anchovy powder falls out. If you remove the anchovy powder, the side dishes will be clean. 


Slice peppers. If you don't have them, you can skip it.

Step 2: Stir-fried anchovies

Stir-fry anchovies over medium heat for about 2 minutes.  Put the stir-fried anchovies on a plate.

Step 3: Seasoning anchovies

Add 2 tablespoons of oil to the preheated pan. Add 1 teaspoon of garlic. 

Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of red pepper powder, and 1 tablespoon of cooking wine. Boil the sauces a little bit. 

Turn off the heat. Put the anchovies in the sauces. Mix them well. Add 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon of sesame oil, and 1 tablespoon of sesame seeds. 


Add sliced peppers. Mix them well.

Notes

*You can find anchovies at a Korean grocery store near you, or online stores like Amazon.

*You do not need to wash small anchovies. If you stir-fry anchovies in a pan, it removes odor and moisture, making anchovies crispy.
