Korean Style Mapo Tofu

with steamed rice for a great one dish meal!

Hello, K Friends! It’s nice to see you again. We often miss our mom’s foods from time to time. Recently, my husband talked about a special cuisine that he tasted for the first time in his life. It was Korean Style Mapo Tofu. Because his mom had a unique way of cooking it, he can’t forget the taste. Mapo tofu is a popular Chinese dish from the Sichuan province. However, it is also very popular in Korea. Of course, with a few modifications to make it Korean style. So, I am going to introduce Korean Style Mapo Tofu today. Let’s see how it goes!

Mapo Tofu

Ingredients:  1 lb. 1 silken tofu 4 oz pork, 1/3 red and green bell peppers, 1/3 onions, 2 green onions, 5 cloves of garlic, a bit of starch water

Sauce: 2T soy sauce, 1/2T red pepper powder, 1/2T red pepper paste, 1/2T soybean paste (optional), 1T honey, 2 T cooking wine

How To Make It

Step 1: Cutting the ingredients

Cut the onion thinly. Chop the sliced onion finely again. Slice the green onions. Slice the green bell peppers thinly. Chop up the green bell peppers into small pieces. Slice the red bell peppers thinly. Chop the red bell peppers into small pieces. Slice five cloves of garlic thinly. I'm going to use ground pork. I'm going to use silken tofu today. Cut the silken tofu into 1/2-inch cubes.

Step 2: Stir-fry ingredients

Add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil to the pan.

Add the sliced garlic, green onions, and onions. Stir-fry the ingredients well.

Add the ground pork. Add about 2 tablespoons of cooking wine to get rid of the meaty smell.

Once the meat is stir-fried to a certain extent, add 1/2 tablespoon of red pepper powder. Add bell peppers. Stir well.

And then add 1/2 tablespoon of red pepper paste.

Add about half a tablespoon of soybean paste. This is optional. Add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. Add 1 tablespoon of honey. Stir-fry all the ingredients well.

Step 3: Boiling

Add 1 cup of water to the well stir-fried ingredients. Boil it over high heat.

When the ingredients start to boil, add silken tofu. Silken tofu can break easily, so stir gently.

When the tofu is boiled to some extent, add a little starch water and make it a bit thick. After 1 minute, turn the heat off.

Put the rice on the plate. Place mapo tofu on top of the rice. Drizzle a bit of sesame oil. Sprinkle a bit of sesame seeds. Put a bit of green onions. Super easy and healthy mapo tofu is done!

When you saw my recipe today, you might think that something looks different from the Mapo Tofu that you tasted in a Chinese restaurant. Yes, there are some differences between the original Mapo Tofu and recipe and cooking. For example, I used gochujang (red pepper paste) and daenjang (soy bean paste) instead of Chinese chili bean sauce. I hope you like my Korean Style Mapo Tofu recipe with steamed rice for a great one dish meal! Have a great day! See you next Time! Thank you!
