How to Make Korean Rice Cake Skewer!

Rice Cake Skewer, Tteok Kkochi

Today's dish is a nostalgic snack that was sold a lot in front of Korean schools. It's Tteok Kkochi also known as rice cake skewers. It is a national snack loved by both adults and children. I want to make it because my daughter also wants to eat it. Hope you enjoy this recipe!

Ingredients: 14 oz (400 grams) Tteokbokki tteok (rice cake), some chopped peanuts (optional)

Seasoning Sauce: 4 tablespoons of water, half tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of red pepper paste, 3 tablespoons of ketchup, 3 tablespoons of starch syrup, 1 teaspoon of garlic, 1 tablespoon of sugar

How to make it

Step 1: Making the Sauce

Pour 4 tablespoons of water, half a tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of red pepper paste, 3 tablespoons of ketchup, 3 tablespoons of oligosaccharide (or starch syrup),1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic. Mix well.

Put some peanuts in a zip lock bag. Chop it finely with the back of a knife. I'll put it on top of the rice cake skewers as a garnish later.

Step 2: Rice Cake Preparation

Boil tteokbokki tteok in hot water for 2 minutes. 2 minutes later, take out the tteok (tteokbokki rice cake) and wash it once in cold water and drain the water.

Put 2 tablespoons of starch powder in the bag and add the boiled tteokbokki tteok. Keep the bag and shake it. Put tteokbokki tteok onto the skewers.

Step 3: Grilling

Add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Grill them for 2-3 minutes each side over medium heat. When it's golden brown to some extent, turn it over and grill it. Place the grilled tteokbokki tteok on a plate.

Step 4: Putting the seasoning sauce

Pour the seasoning sauce into the pan. Boil for about 1 minute over medium heat. Turn off the heat and spread seasoning sauce on the grilled rice cake skewers. Sprinkle some chopped peanuts on top of the rice cake skewers. Sweet and savory tteok skewers are done!
