Potato pancake recipe without eggs!

Crispy Potato pancake

Hello K Friends! Hope you are doing well! Today I would like to introduce gamjachaeeon, shredded potato pancake. Sometimes we get tired of eating the same foods, so when that happens, try making gamjachaejeon. The crispy texture and savory flavor are absolutely delicious. These days, I make it almost every day!

Ingredients

  • 2 potatoes (medium size)
  • half an onion (small size)
  • 1t salt
  • cooking oil

How to make it

1. Slice the potatoes as thinly as possible. Slice thinly again. Slice the onion thinly. Soak the sliced potatoes in water and remove the starch by hand. Place the sliced potatoes on a strainer and remove the water.

2. Put the sliced potatoes and the sliced onion in a bowl. Put 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix well. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

3. 10 minutes later, heat a pan and add about 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. The potatoes have released lots of water. Squeeze out the water by hand. Then put the potatoes in the pan.

4. Use a spoon or spatula to shape the potato pancakes and press them well. Cook on high heat for about 1 minute at first. Then cook on medium heat for about 3 minutes.

5. Once the bottom of the potato slices become crispy, flip it over. Add 1 tablespoon of oil.  Cook on medium heat for another 3~4 minutes.

6. After 4 minutes, if the potato pancakes are fully cooked, sprinkle some chopped chives or parsley on top for a more appetizing appearance. This is optional. Serve on a plate.

7. When you eat it, it's best to cut it with a knife and eat it one by one.

How was today's recipe? It was really simple and easy, wasn't it? I hope you give it a try. I’ll see you next week. Thank you! Bye bye!

Notes

  • If you find it difficult to slice, you can also use a vegetable slicer.
  • When you make potato pancakes after washing them with water, they become much crispier.
  • When you add onions to the potato pancake, the sweetness and aroma of the onion go well with the potato dish.
  • It's good to use a little more oil for a crispier texture.
  • If you want it extra crispy texture, you can leave it on medium-low heat for an additional 1-2 minutes.
