Gim
Muchim
Hello
K Friends! Hope you are doing well! Koreans tend to eat more rice than bread,
so there are many types of side dishes that go well with rice. Among them, I
will introduce a dish that is both delicious and healthy, called Gim-Muchim. Hope
you like this recipe!
Gim Muchim |
Ingredients:
- 20 pieces gim (dried laver)
- 2 scallions
- 1 red pepper
- 3 cloves garlic
- Seasoning:
- 2T soy sauce
- 2T cooking wine
- 1/2T honey or sugar
- 2T sesame oil
- 2T sesame seeds
Instructions:
1.
Mince 3 cloves of garlic finely. Slice 2 scallions thinly. Cut the red pepper
in half and remove the seeds. Slice it thinly and chop it finely.
2.
Put the Gim on a preheated pan, and grill it on medium high heat until it's
cooked. Flip the Gim over and press it gently with a spatula. When grilled, Gim
turns dark green like this. Do the rest in the same way.
3.
Fold the grilled Gim and put it in a bag. Close the bag tightly and crush the
Gim into small pieces.
4.
Add 2T of soy sauce, 2T of sesame oil, minced
garlic (3 cloves of garlic), 2T of cooking wine, 1/2 T of honey or sugar, 2 sliced
scallions, 1 chopped red chili pepper, and 2T of toasted sesame seeds. Mix them
well.
5.
Put the crushed Gim into the seasoning and mix well.
6.
Put the Gim Muchim in a serving dish. It's great as a side dish for rice and
it's healthy too!
I
hope you can give it a try! I will see you next week! Thank you!
Notes
- For color and flavor, I used 1 red chili pepper. If you don't have a red chili pepper, you can skip this step.
- There
are many types of Gim, but Gobchang Gim is slightly thicker and has a rougher
surface than regular Gim. If
you don’t have Gobchang Gim, you can use a regular gim.
- It's better to grill the Gim on a pan instead of just grilling it straight on the burner because it might burn.
- Gim is rich in calcium, potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin B12. Gim is also known to lower cholesterol levels, delay aging, regulate blood sugar, and enhance immunity. Gim contains many beneficial nutrients!
- By crushing the Gim, it will mix well with the seasoning later on.
- At first, it might seem like there's a lot of Gim, but after mixing it with the seasoning, the amount of Gim will decrease.
- Gim muchim can be stored in the refrigerator and should be consumed within a week.
