Garlic Storage Hacks: Keep it Fresh for Long Time!!!

3 Ways to Store Peeled Garlic

Hello, K Friends! How are you doing? Hope all of you are doing well! When cooking Korean cuisine, one of the ingredients almost always used is garlic. Garlic is one of the representative vegetables of Korea and plays a crucial role in various dishes and seasonings. If you find it inconvenient to buy garlic every time you cook, I'll show you 3 ways to store it for a long time.

#1 Refrigeration Storage Method for Peeled Garlic

Cut off the root ends as they can be dirty and bitter. Wash them and make sure to drain the water thoroughly. Remove any remaining moisture with kitchen towels.

In an airtight container, lay about 0.4 inches of sugar at the bottom. Place 2-3 kitchen towels on top of the sugar, then add the garlic. Lay another 2 kitchen towels over the garlic and add more garlic. Repeat with towels and garlic. Finally, cover the top with a kitchen towel, and seal the container.

Store in a refrigerator. Stored this way, the garlic can last for about a month in the refrigerator.

#2 Freezing a Large Amount at Once

Put the trimmed garlic in the blender. Blend the garlic in a blender.

In a flat container, put a layer of parchment paper at the bottom.

Add the minced garlic. Spread an even layer of garlic over it. Make sure the garlic is spread out well. Cover with plastic wrap to prevent the garlic smell from spreading in the freezer.

Freeze for about 6 hours.

After 6 hours, Once frozen, cut the garlic into suitable sizes.

Store the sliced garlic in a container. If you don't have a container, you can put them in a ziplock bag, freeze, and take out pieces as needed. It can be used for up to one year when stored frozen.

#3 Freezing Minced Garlic in a Small Ziplock Bag (Small quantity at once)

Place the minced garlic into a ziplock bag in suitable amounts.

Spread it evenly, ensuring it isn't too thick.  Remove as much air as possible and leave a bit of space at the top of the bag. Use a chopstick to divide the garlic into desired portions. Freeze the divided garlic.

Once frozen, you can easily take out a portion when needed for cooking.

Among 3 methods, I think this method is the most convenient and best for me!

Garlic not only enhances the taste of food but is also beneficial for health. I hope you find the storage methods I shared today helpful for your cooking needs.  I'll see you again next week. Thank you and take care!

Notes

  • Laying sugar helps to absorb the moisture from the garlic, preventing it from going bad.
  • Over time, if moisture forms in the sugar, replacing the sugar and kitchen towels can extend the storage period.
  • If the top part of the ziplock bag is too full, it can be difficult to make divisions.
