#1 Steamed Rice

Ingredients

  • 1/2C rice
  • 3/4C water

Instructions

Pour half a cup of rice into a large cup (one serving).

Add one cup of water, rinse the rice well, and drain.

Put the rice back in the cup and add ¾ cup of water.

Let it soak for 30 minutes for better texture.

Place the cup in a bowl and cover with a plate to avoid overflow.

Microwave for 5 minutes.

Let it sit for 1 minute without opening the lid.

Pour overflowed water from the bowl back into the cup and microwave for another 2 minutes.

Enjoy perfectly cooked, fluffy, and delicious rice!

#2 Steamed Egg

Ingredients

  • 5 eggs
  • A bit scallion (optional)
  • A bit carrot (optional)
  • 1/2t salt
  • 1t sesame oil
  • 1 1/2C hot water

Instructions

Finely chop one green onion.

Thinly slice and chop the carrot into small pieces.

In a bowl, mix 5 eggs, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of sesame oil.

Add 1.5 cups of hot water to cook the eggs faster. Strain the mixture for a smoother texture.

Optionally, add chopped green onions or carrots.

Use a microwave-safe bowl and cover with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap with holes. Microwave for 6-7 minutes.

After 6-7 minutes, perfectly Soft and Pudding-like Steamed Egg is done!

#3 Stir-Fried Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sized potatoes
  • Some bacon (optional)
  • 1 green onion
  • 1/2t salt
  • 1/2T cooking oil
  • A bit pepper

Instructions

Thinly slice the potatoes, then julienne them into thin strips. Soak the julienned potatoes in water to remove the starch. Drain the potatoes and place them in a strainer to remove excess water.

Thinly slice one green onion. Slice some bacon or ham thinly.

Mix the drained potatoes with bacon, ½ teaspoon of salt, a bit of pepper, ½ tablespoon of cooking oil, and some chopped green onions.

Cover with a microwave-safe lid. Microwave for 6 minutes.

After 6 minutes, if it tastes bland, add a bit more salt. Simple and delicious stir-fried potatoes are done!

#4 Braised Tofu

Ingredients

  • 16oz (450g) 1 block tofu
  • Sauce
  • 2 T soy sauce
  • 1 T oyster sauce
  • 1/2 T minced garlic
  • 1 T red pepper powder
  • 1 T sugar
  • 1 T sesame oil
  • 2 T chopped green onions
  • 1 T cooking wine
  • a bit of pepper

Instructions

Thinly chop 2 green onions.

In a bowl, put 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce, 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic, 1 tablespoon red pepper powder, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1 tablespoon sesame oil, 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, 1 tablespoon cooking wine, and a bit of pepper. Mix well.

Cut one block of tofu in half and slice into desired thickness. Place tofu in a microwave-safe container and evenly spread the sauce on top. Layer the rest of the tofu and spread the remaining sauce.

Cover with a microwave-safe lid and microwave for 7 minutes.

After 7 minutes, savory delicious braised tofu is done!

#5 Seasoned Zucchini Side Dish 

Ingredients

  • 1 medium sized zucchini
  • Seasoning sauce
  • 1/2 T soy sauce
  • 1/2 T tuna fish sauce or soy sauce
  • 1/2 T sesame oil
  • 1 t garlic
  • 1/2 T red pepper powder
  • 1 T sesame seeds
  • 1 T chopped green onions

Instructions

Cut the zucchini in half and slice into thick pieces for better texture.

Place the zucchini in a microwave-safe container, cover with a lid or plastic wrap, and microwave for about 3 minutes.

In a bowl, put 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce, 1/2 tablespoon tuna fish sauce (or soy sauce), 1/2 tablespoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon garlic, 1/2 tablespoon red pepper powder, 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, and 1 tablespoon chopped green onions.

After 3 minutes, drain the water from the zucchini and mix it with the seasoning.

If it tastes bland, add more tuna fish sauce or a pinch of salt. Flavorful seasoned zucchini is done!

#6 Super Simple Suyuk (Boiled Pork)

Ingredients

  • 14oz (400g) pork belly
  • 1 onion
  • 2 green onions (optional)
  • 3 pinches salt
  • A bit pepper
  • 1T cooking wine

Instructions

Cut the pork belly into appropriate sizes and make small diagonal cuts for better cooking and tenderness.

Season the pork with 3 pinches of salt, a bit of pepper, and 1 tablespoon of cooking wine. Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, cut half an onion into appropriate sizes and place in a microwave-safe dish. Put the seasoned pork on top of the onion, then slice the remaining half onion and place it on top of the meat. Optionally, slice 2 green onions and place them on the meat.

Cover with a microwave-safe lid or plastic wrap with a few holes poked in it. Microwave for 10 minutes. If the meat is thick, cook for an additional 2 minutes.

After 10 minutes, the pork will be perfectly tender and delicious. Slice the pork thinly. Simple yet delicious suyuk is done!

To enjoy, place a piece of meat on a lettuce leaf, add a bit of ssamjang (Korean dipping sauce), wrap it up, and enjoy.
