Mouth-watering Braised Pork Belly
Braised Pork Belly |
Hello everyone! Today, I’ve
prepared a special braised pork belly dish using fresh pork belly I picked up
from Whole Foods. I have to say, it’s one of the best braised pork belly dishes
I’ve ever tasted! I’ll also be sharing some simple yet powerful tips to bring
out the best flavor. Hope you enjoy this recipe!
Ingredients
- 2lb (900g) pork belly
- A bit ginger
- 1 small onion
- 2 stalks green onions
- 10 cloves garlic
- A bit dried chili peppers or pepperoncino (optional)
- 10 oz (300g) green beans, trimmed
- 1 small red onion (or use regular onion)
- A bit sesame seeds
Sauce Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- ½ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup brown or white sugar
- ½ cup Korean rice wine (Cheongju) or cooking wine or white wine
- A pinch black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pork
Belly
Cut the fresh pork belly into thick slices, then into bite-sized pieces. Thinly slice one piece of ginger. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the ginger and pork belly, and blanch for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, drain and discard the ginger and water.
Step 2: Prepare the
Vegetables
Cut the small onion into
quarters. Slice the green onions in half and thinly slice another piece of
ginger. Prepare 10 cloves of garlic. If you want a spicy flavor, add dried
chili peppers or pepperoncino.
Step 3: Make the Sauce
In a large bowl, mix
- 2 cups of water
- ½ cup of soy sauce
- ½ cup of sugar
- ½ cup of Korean rice wine (or cooking wine or white wine)
- a pinch of black pepper and stir everything together
Step 4: Cook the Pork Belly
Pour the sauce into a pot
and add the blanched pork belly and vegetables. Cook uncovered on high until it
boils. Then, cover, reduce to low heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Tip: After
15 minutes, remove the vegetables and skim off excess fat for a cleaner flavor,
then cover and simmer for another 15 minutes.
Step 5: Stir-Fry the Green
Beans
Blanch the trimmed green beans in salted boiling water for 6 minutes, then drain. Thinly slice the red onion. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over high heat. Add the red onion and stir-fry until it becomes translucent. Add the green beans and stir-fry for 1 minute. Season with two pinches of salt and a pinch of black pepper, and stir-fry for one more minute. Transfer to a plate.
Step 6: Plating
Once the pork belly is ready, the sauce will be thick, and the meat tender.
Serve over warm rice,
sprinkle with sesame seeds, and garnish with sliced green onion. Enjoy with
stir-fried green beans for a perfect meal!
Did you enjoy today’s recipe?
The savory and salty sauce soaks right into the pork belly, making it taste
amazing with rice. The stir-fried green beans add great flavor and color, too!
I hope you get to try this dish and love it as much as I do. I’ll be back with
more delicious recipes next time. Thanks so much!
Notes
- Cutting the pork evenly helps it cook faster and soak in the seasoning better.
- Skip the dried chili pepper if you prefer a milder taste.
